Miami International Airport (MIA) is an international airport located in the city of Miami, Florida. The airport covers an area of over 3,330 acres and has three terminals used for passenger travel. Construction began on the new Concourse D in 1993, which opened to passengers during 1995. At one time, the United States government leased a section of the airport for use as a military base. Miami Army Airfield was used to train pilots during World War II and later became a training facility for the U.S. Air Force Reserves until it closed due to budget cutbacks. Eventually, regular passenger service began at MIA and a terminal was built east of the original airfield.
Miami International Airport is now used as a hub for international flights by many different airlines. Due to its size and amount of passenger traffic, the simplest way to travel to and from Miami International Airport is on your own private flight.
